A group of aspiring leaders from the Singapore Institute of Management’s (SIM) School Leaders program participated in a 2D1N Leadership workshop in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The event, designed to foster leadership skills through the The Leadership Challenge (TLC) model, included a unique “Build-A-Bike Challenge,” which aimed to build teamwork, problem-solving, and communication while giving back to the community. The bikes created during the challenge were donated to “Pertubuhan Kebajikan Shan De Johor Bahru”, a shelter for abandoned children.
Held at Le Grandeur Palm Resort, the leadership workshop focused on developing key leadership abilities like Modelling the way and Challenge the process. Participants were also encouraged to embrace social responsibility and community engagement as part of their growth as leaders. The “Build-A-Bike Challenge” allowed teams to work together under time pressure, reinforcing the importance of strategic thinking and cooperation in leadership.
The bicycles were then donated to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Shan De, a non-profit organization that cares for abandoned children. By donating the bikes, the participants made a meaningful contribution to the children’s lives, promoting physical activity and offering them a chance for play and development. It was a powerful reminder of how leadership can positively impact both individuals and communities, blending professional growth with meaningful social contribution.
